Extremity Bracing
Types of Lower Bracing

Lower extremity braces or orthoses are used to stabilize and protect the hips, knees, ankles, and feet. These orthoses are chosen based on each patient’s needs and desires. Lower extremity orthoses are named based on the joints that they control. For example, an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is used to control and/or protect the ankle and foot. Our Certified Orthotists will work closely with each patient and their physician to choose and make an orthosis that is ideal for each patient.

Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFOs)

An Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) is used to support the lower leg and control instabilities by holding the ankle and foot in proper alignment. An AFO can be selected and provided off-the-shelf or custom designed and built for patients. Our Certified Orthotists work with physicians and patients to determine which brace will best support the patient and get them back to their favorite activities!

Custom AFOs with unique imprint designs available

In the case of a custom designed and built AFO, a printed design can be added to the brace to improve aesthetics. Patients can choose from a variety of print options to match their AFO to their own person style!

Dynamic Carbon AFOs: Lightweight and easy to apply

Carbon fiber is extremely lightweight and strong. It can be used instead of plastic in some cases to provide extra strength and energy return. Our Certified Orthotists evaluate each patient to determine if they might benefit from a dynamic carbon fiber device.

Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walker (CROW)

A CROW is prescribed for patients that have been diagnosed with Charcot foot or need relief due to a persistent ulcer. It provides total contact with all surfaces of the lower leg and foot to reduce pressures on specific parts of the foot. The interior is custom-shaped for each patient and provides an environment to protect and prevent further injury.

Hip Abduction Orthosis

A Hip Abduction Orthosis is typically used after a hip dislocation or hip surgery. This brace is customized to fit each patient and should be worn 24 hours a day or as prescribed by a physician. Our Certified Orthotists perform the initial fitting and are happy to meet with patients to make adjustments as needed.

Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFOs)

A Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO) is a brace that is used to control instabilities in the knee and/or ankle. There are a vast number of reasons why a patient may need a KAFO which is why our KAFOs can be designed to meet each patient’s needs and abilities. Our Certified Orthotists are always on call to help patients who may be experiencing blisters, redness, or pain with their brace.

Knee Orthosis (Post-Operative, Sports, Functional)

Our Certified Orthotists provide patients with a wide variety of knee braces. These may be post-operative, sport, or functional braces. Our practitioners collaborate with the physician to determine which brace is best for each patient and then select and custom fit each brace.
